Icons

Name the tablet

Samsung Galaxy Note 10" tablet gives a very brief documentation.
Doing some research I found out how to change the default name of the tablet.
Open applications panel : top right icon.
Select Parameters.
Select More parameters.
In Media sharing, Select Devices detected.
In list Advanced parameters, you'll seeName of the device.
Click and Modify.

Shut applications

Select 3rd icon at bottom left : Navigation between applications.
A list of applications 'd be dispalyed. Scroll it and Select Task Manager.
You 'll get Actived Applications and RAM manager.
You can shut off applications and clean RAM.

Files transfer

There are many ways to transfer files to a tablet, bluetoothin particular, I'd like to point out this adapter : A-USBKey (4, 8, 16, 32 and 64 GB)
The ads said that it's the 1st USB key for SAMSUNG GALAXY TAB & Note 10.1 with 2 male connectors : USB and SGT
You could buy it by Amazon.
Easy to plug in a notebook using classical USB port (FAT32).
You need to lay your tablet flat. You should handle it with care.

Speed transfers (8Go key) :
- notebook asus → key : ~4,5MB/s
- Key → Tablet : ~10,5MB/s
- Key → (Tablet) → MicroSDcard Samsung 4Go : ~4,5MB/s
Nothing special given the price ! ( 30€ - 8Go Amazon )

The 2014 tablet owns a microUSB. So you can plug in the same cable as for mobile phone.
Let me point out this one : ELTD Micro USB Host OTG.
It is angled therefore more reliable. You could buy it by Amazon. (~7€)

Adobe Flash

Flash player can run in Androïd system if you proceed as following :
- Open Parameters. Then Security.
- In Device management, toggle Unknown Sources.
- Download Adobe plugin.
- Install.

Videos format

Video : 3gp, avi , flv, mkv, mp4, wmv
Codecs : MPEG4, H.264, VC-1, DivX/XviD, H.263, Sorenson H.263

SDcard

After pluging in a SDcard, known as comme extSdCard, don't unplug it without doing the following instructions before. Comment ?
Open Applications panel : right top icon.
Select Parameters.
Select Store.
In SD card, Select Take off SDcard.

Change default directories

Download application ES Explorer.
Main menu principal stands in left column.
Select Directories parameters.
In the right zone, you'll see :
- Home. ( default : /sdcard the main card )
- Bluetooth.
- Download ( default /sdcard/Download )

If you want your downloads gettting into your EXTERNAL SDcard, select /storage/extSdCard

How to get root admin

Be careful, : the battery must 100% full charged.
Be sure to own the good files !. In 2012 Jelly Bean 4.1.2; in 2014 v4.3 and Kitkat 4.4.2

- Download:
either OneClickRoot at author website or here. (under license) or SuperOneClick here. (v2.3.3-ShortFuse free). Unzip in a new directory (no install).
- Be sure your computer has gotten the ADB drivers for your tablet Galaxy 10.1 for Windows system.
- Set up the tablet in USB Debugging mode :

If OS is Ice Cream Sandwich (androïd 4.1.2), do the following :
- Open Applications panel : right top icon.
- Select Parameters. In System, Select Developping Options.
- Toggle at right top of the screen to see options
Click OK when warned.
- Toggle Debugging USB.

If OS is Jelly Bean 4.2 and upper.
- Select Parameters.
- Select « About », hit 7 times « Build number ».
A message should appear at this time, toggle Developper option.

- Plug in tablet to computer.
- Run SuperOneClick. In Options, click Root.
Process starts and lasts 5 minutes.

If you got Knox alerts, it's advised to freeze them : Titanium Backup or Rom Toolbox.

As an admin, you have to freeze :
com.sec.entreprise.knox.attestation
com.sec.knox.eventsmanager
Knox (2applications)
Knox notification manager
Knox store

For 2014 release, it's advised to get a rooted ROM without Knox.
For Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 WiFi (SM-P600)
- Download ROM here. (1,2 Go size)
- Put it on SDcard or tablet.

- Restart in Recovery mode.
- Press together Pwr , low volume buttons, to get bootloader running.
- Press the volume buttons until Recovery is displayed.
- Press Pwr button.
- Select install ZIP from SDCard. Search for ROM file.
- Install.
- Then do Wipe Data and Wipe Cache to clean up.

Another way to do the job for Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 WiFi (SM-P600) (firmware MJ4 and upper) :
- Download this file.
It has gotten autorootp600mj4.tar.md5 and stockrecoverymj4.tar.md5 and directory Odin309.
- Install Odin3 v3.09.exe
- Restart the tablet in Recovery mode.
- Run « Odin » on computer.
- Click AP and selectautorootp600mj4.tar.md5
- Check out that only AP , Auto Reboot and F reset Time are toggled.
- Plug in tablet and computer.
- As soon as Odin sees the tablet, click Start.
The tablet restarts.

Do the same instructions for stockrecoverymj4.tar.md5.
- Freeze Knox applications

Vulnerabilities

December 2013, 2 weak points have been shown. A hacker could bypass the screen lock.
Even if the device was locked, it 'll use the emergency call.

The first point was to press Emergency call, then Home, the homepage appears shortly, an application could be run.
The second point was to press Emergency call to Google Play, then uninstall the locked screen to get total access to data user.

Import favorites

1 - In your computer, export favorites using html format : 2014-02-23_14-15_auto.html
2 - In tablet, download BookmarkSB. Restart.
Create a directory named Bookmarksb.
Put the html file inside.
Run the application.
In menu, select Restore. Select the html file.

Other method : (my favorite)
Proceed as previous §1 .
In tablet, download Bookmark Folder.
Install then Open.
In right top corner, open menu, select Plus then import html.
Now, when selecting a bookmark, you 'd be able to access url using one of your installed browsers.

Partition microSDcard

The internal memory of the tablet could not be enough, and you could give Android an access to a microSDcard partition.
From a computer you must have the software for partitioning.

Delete volume assigned to microSDcard.
Suppose you want to allow 512MBo for Androïd alone.
Create a 1st partition Fat32. (name : FAT32 , main partition, size = total minus 512)
On the free partition (512Mo), create a partition ext2. (name : EXT2 , main partition, size = 512)
Apply.
You got an EXT2 partition exclusive for Androïd and a FAT32 partition (for Androïd and Windows).

android.process.acore has stopped

You got this error message 'cause you unistalled a Samsung application (Calendar for instance)

To fix up, I used Clean master already installed, to get access to desactived applications.
But you have to process very quick between OK button of error message and access to buttons of reactivating apps.

Conclusion : do not desactivate Samsung Apps !
